Music Over Pendle for Pub Charity Day

The Pendle countryside will echo to the sound of live rock music as the Rising Sun at Blacko stages a ‘Summer Fun’ pub charity day.

Licensees Peter and Nicola Loftus have organised the day to say a big thank you for the warm welcome they have received since taking over the Gisburn Road pub, near Nelson, earlier this year.

A line up of local bands – courtesy of Brian ‘Hobgoblin’ Flockhart – will perform outside the pub on Saturday August 19 2017 from 1-8pm. The free entry event with raffles includes DJ, bar and food van to raise funds for the parish council and Pendleside Hospice.

Previously the couple successfully ran the Anchor, Salterforth, and Langho’s Lord Nelson. Peter said: “We have had a lovely welcome to Blacko and wanted to say thank you. We noticed that the parish council works hard to keep the village looking good, so the day will raise funds for the village and the hospice.”

Since January, Peter and Nicola have revamped the Moorhouse’s owned pub and won the prestigious Cask Marque quality recognition with four of the Burnley brewer’s acclaimed ales – Pride of Pendle, Blonde Witch, Premier Bitter and Stray Dog, a collaboration brew with the legendary New Order band.

The former weaver’s cottage features traditional rooms and a terrace with panoramic views towards Pendle Hill. Peter says they aim to welcome villagers and visitors alike with an offer of home-made Lancashire dishes – including the popular ‘stew ‘n’ hard’ delicacy- and quiz and darts team nights. Food is available in the evenings Wednesday to Sunday and lunchtimes Friday to Sunday.

Moorhouse’s managing director Lee Williams said: “We are delighted to support Peter and Nicola in the fund raising event and their plans to put the pub at the heart of village life while also welcoming the many visitors to the stunning Pendle countryside.”
